Photosynthesis Diagnostic Question Clusters

 

Photosynthesis is an essential process for most biological systems, as well as a key component of introductory biology courses. Topics that span from the atomic to ecosystem scales, such as the Calvin cycle, plant physiology and net primary production, are usually included in these classes. Tracing matter and energy across a hierarchy of scales is necessary for students to reason scientifically about photosynthesis, and to apply their knowledge to future situations. Two parallel Photosynthesis DQCs (PA & PB) are designed to measure student ability to trace matter and energy through the generation? of organic carbon from inorganic substances, at organismal, cellular and atomic/molecular scales.
