Faculty will need to develop their own Directions as a modification of the ones on "Carbon Dioxide Assignment" at http://serc.carleton.edu/introgeo/interactive/examples/co2.html
Give/show students the Keeling Curve. As a minute paper, homework etc. ask the following (part or all).
- This is the familiar Keeling Curve showing carbon dioxide data collected in Hawaii from 1958-2006. If the data had been collected in the southern hemisphere of the earth as opposed to the northern hemisphere, how would be figure look different? Why?
- Draw a concept map of the metabolic processes? that combined together result in the changes we can see in the Keeling Curve. Include the following scales: atomic/molecular (e.g. CO2), individual organism (e.g. a tree), ecosystem (e.g. forests), and global (northern or southern hemisphere).
